Goodbye, Darkie

It is the truth of farming that the livestock are here for a purpose. They are here to breed, raise lambs and be sold. Recently, I had to face this reality. Darkie had had a ewe lamb this year in February but had only once teat of milk. Chances are that wouldn't have had milk for her lambs next year. She had reached the end of her productive life. I didn't want to sell her, but it was the best thing to do financially in the long run.

I'm sorry you had to leave so soon, Darkie. But I thank you for the good times we've had. Goodbye, my sheepish friend.

  1. It is good to honour our friends always. So long, Darkie. If you ever come across our sheep friend, Polka Dot, please say hello.
