Begin Again

And so the year ends as it began, with lambing on the horizon. Over the coming fortnight the ewes will be gathered in and the sheds will be filled, and then the work really begins!

There was a pleasant surprise for Dad as he checked on the ewes today - a little lamb, born as Storm Frank battered the UK and Ireland with heavy rain and wind. I'd had the idea in my head that if a lamb happened to be born around this time, I'd name him Frank. Except this is a girl, so she shall be Frankie.

I checked on them this evening, shortly before dark. Mum was wary of me, but she stuck by her sleeping baby.

I approached slowly, rattling a bucket to keep her attention. Meanwhile, I snapped some pictures of Frankie.

...And I woke her up and checked her over. She seems quite strong, and I hope she'll be okay tonight.

Mum enjoyed her treat.

I moved the little family to a spot more sheltered from the wind.

But this is were it begins. First one lamb, and then another, and another...

Happy New Year, everyone!

Sitting on the Blue Trailer

While walls are my go-to when I want the dogs to be level with me and/or the background, trailers can also be very useful. Here's Teddy being very handsome on a trailer:

Jess has a very relaxed way of lying down.

Standing at the back.

Some photos of Pip being adorable.

Some more Teddy. Because fluffy.

Teddy looks a bit worried in this one.

The Christmas Dinner Guest

christmas eve
Watching It's a Wonderful Life and waiting for Santa Paws...

christmas day

It may be Christmas Day but the animals still need fed. These ewes need some extra feeding because they're older.

If you bring a bucket of any kind into this field you will be mobbed.

Pouring out the good stuff.

Happy customers.

The ewes in the field next door watched enviously on.

They get licks...

...and silage to get them through the winter.

Jess, banished from the muddy field, waited for her lift back home.

Pip got wrapped up in tinsel...

...and waited for the dinner to start.

I asked my dad to take a few photos of us.

I returned the favour.

I lent Granny my hat.

Turkey time. Pip thought it looked very nice...

After the meal was over, I had fun giving Pip hats to try on.

boxing day
I put a Christmas bow in Blue Belle's mane. I think it looks really cute.

And the rest of us had too much turkey for dinner. Again.

Time for lying up.

I hope you all had a Christmas as wonderful as we did.
