A Lamb Called Dave

At the moment I have two pet lambs, and considering that we've only 30 or so ewes left to lamb out of almost 300, it's not bad at all. This is Dave a few weeks ago:

He was born around the beginning of February, one of two. His mum didn't have enough milk for the two lambs, and Dave turned out to be the one who needed a helping hand. Now, at almost a month old, Dave the Dorset lamb is growing fast.

In the background is Gloria, Dave's fellow pet lamb. She's quite a bit smaller than him.

And in case we forget his name...

I'm teaching him to walk on a halter too.

He's got a very fluffy Dorset face.

The Hunting Party

This is Poppy.

She likes rabbits.

We have a lot of rabbits around the fields, so catching a few helps to control the population. Only Sheila has ever caught a rabbit, and that was because it ran right into her mouth. Poppy and her team of helpers are much better at catching rabbits.

Watch and learn, Pip.

(Thanks to Poppy and her helpers for letting me photograph them!)

Tales from the Lambing Shed

Lambing is currently in full swing, with over 170 lambs already born. The ewes yet to lamb have been inside since early January.

On the other side of the peephole, I like having my doggy helpers around.

They don't really have to do anything, just sit/stand around looking pretty.

Chopping bales of straw for bedding kicks up a lot of dust.

Then there are the most important residents of the lambing shed: the lambs.

Lambs, lambs, everywhere!

When the Snow Falls...

...I get snappy.

For last Christmas I had cards made with some photographs I had taken previously. There wasn't any snow at all last year, so imagine my surprise when we didn't have snow just once last month - we had it twice! It was the perfect opportunity to update my collection of seasonal photographs.

I think it's fair to say I'm ready for next Christmas.
